Yeah... what he^ said. Patience and doing it right is better than trying to take short cuts and maybe pay big time for it.

    Crawling

that's actually "illegal." if you get caught search engines will penalize you... however... this past year the search engines have really been lax about what they are doing so you might or might not get away with it. it took 6 months to get indexed by google even with google ads on the site...

a table cell would work just as well to integrate it with your existing web site. just put the code inside the table cell you wish to use.

Newbie wanting feedback on website - Pls!

While there's not a lot there yet, it looks alright to me except for being way too big... I'm assuming that the image I looked at is intended to be the actual page size. I'd shoot for 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 at the largest. Haven't checked the stats this past year but I'd say the latter is the...

    Transparent textbox over an image.

There are several different ways to accomplish this. The best way for you will depend on the amount of space the text takes up vs the size of the image. Scientist, I'm not trying to be mean or anything. I've been watching your posts. Your enthusiasm is great but I think you need to start at...

    The Design Dump

Proof that not all computers are created or configured equal... Using IE6 I first got a blank gray page with nothing else. A number of refreshes finally netted a page. However, on the right side under the links section there is a frame that says I'm not authorized to view that page.

    iframe customisation

I've never done it before but i would think it would be as simple as changing the look of the browser window's scrollbar considering that an iframe is basically a page within a page.

that would work but you can still use webcalendar for the same thing... just have the admin (which is you) add users so they can input information as it comes in if shoutbox won't suit because it does let all visitors in.

I'm new here and was wondering where everyone is from

Well, where I'm from is in my profile info that shows on my posts. Actually the board owner is in Australia and the rest of us are from all over the world. Added: Ian's post below reminded me. I didn't put an age. I'll be 47 on my next birthday which isn't very far away, :p

Shiny chrome? Well, the best way I've seen to make metallics that really look metallic is Cool 3d http://www.ulead.com/cool3d/runme.htm which costs $49.95 USD. It's cheap and easy, fairly easy to use as well. I'd definitely add a photo gallery and share those photos... you might just make...

    Simple HTML gone wrong...HELP ME!!!

It would help if i knew what it is doing in Firefox. A pic of your site in a browser where it works properly doesn't help much. I did do a little math on the section in question and your combined td sizes don't match up the table size... that is if i found the right section of the code.

    Your Thoughts, Please?

Well, don't worry about it too much, okay. Just relax, take some deep breaths, and enjoy the experience.

    Here goes!

Because photos are something to share, not cover up... backgrounds tend to get covered up more than actually show through on the page. Like, how would you see the text if you used a photo background and didn't make the table backgrounds a solid color. It's a personal preference, I suppose.

    Here goes!

even an out of date copy of photoshop is pretty good if it's not too old... I used v6 forever before I finally upgraded. As far as the photos, i wouldn't recommend using any for a background but you might want to set up a gallery or something for them if they are relevant to the site. are...

for the links, open your pages up in dreamweaver, find the links and change how they open... you'll see that in properties at the bottom of the working window. it will say _blank which causes the links to open in new windows. You want it to say _self instead. for the other, a web calendar...
