bland site can you help me jazz it up?

the ones on your forum page... they are very hard to read.If you keep those links they will be what is flush with your main header... I don't envision it looking bad.

    using gif's

it depends on how big the whole image is... it's easier and faster to load several small gifs than one big one. It's also easier to arrange content around slices of images that are used to make a whole by being able to designate some slices as backgrounds with text on top of it and so on.

bland site can you help me jazz it up?

ok... on your index page you have a decent header... everything is greyed of one shade or another except your logo... now if one moves to the forum, you have your header up there then this big second header that says forum... if the forum is integrated into the cms, you can take that big header...

    Meta data for people?

The images don't necessarily have to be large, just enough to give a visitor an idea of what to expect... although you can provide the option to view a larger image if the visitors wish. One way to cut down on bandwidth usage is to optimize images, jpgs around 80% are a much smaller file size...

    Meta data for people?

I saw what the site is about but honestly, I have very little time to anything other than my work or hobbies that are solitary by their very nature. Try some screenshots to make a demo but use some that don't disclose someone's private information or ask permission of the user before using...

    so simple its stupid...

i have great experience in search engine optimisation, but unfortunatly not much in web design and would like to offer a package for both. I know this is some real beginners web design stuff but answers would be very helpful as i own just about every book on dreamweaver mx2004 and yet there are...

    Meta data for people?

Well, i think the first thing I would do is choose one logo and stick to it, preferrably one of the ones that is easiest to read. Navigation seems okay so far but you don't see much pre-registration and I'm not sure what it would be like afterwards. I don't want to register to find out, either...

    Creativewebslave.com (my site)

What's not too expensive? I had a customer who moved to different cheaper service about 8 months ago, keeps emailing us every couple months or so to see if we have a backup of his site because his service keeps losing his shopping cart database. Of course this last time we didn't have it. The...

    Creativewebslave.com (my site)

took too long to load (about 30 seconds), got a runtime error. When i got the runtime error, i shut it down, sorry.

    Is this site for you?

I got runtime errors so you might want to check your javascript.. it was very annoying to have that pop up while i was on site. For the rest I agree with ian.

source codes blocked by Norton Internet Security

Feel free to send him to this forum and read what I wrote. I'm not a web designer either ... at least not professionally... so that should be another point in your favor.

    What's the best editor?

I think the best html editor is the one you are most comfortable using. Others will argue the point one way or another but all of them have their good points and bad points so it's really up to the individual. I use both Dreamweaver and Frontpage so I'm comfortable with both. Dreamweaver has...

source codes blocked by Norton Internet Security

Well... I guess it's my turn to be a little sarcastic. If it were me, I'd turn them off and look for alternative programs to cover that stuff. Norton is a bloated resource hog... any part of it... I won't quarrel with the antivirus because it is good enough to live with its piggishness but for...

    Trouble between browsers

LOL... not a problem really but I'm not sure the person asking took it as sarcasm.

    Trouble between browsers

It's really not a matter of our personal preferences in browsers. If that were the case then we wouldn't design for cross browser use. IE is the most used browser in the world... that's a fact of internet life... if you don't design your sites for IE then you've already seriously eliminated a...

source codes blocked by Norton Internet Security

send a link to the site... will look at the source code, see what's what... i've never heard such a problem from basic html either... unless the images just aren't there on the site... yet javascript is not a problem... oh yes, what browser are you using?

    My 2nd website.

I like it. It's rather simplistic but catches the eye without overloading it, which is important to any website.
