    newbie - creating a website

It's going to depend on how long you're willing to go before this site is up and running. If you don't mind pushing it a few years to make sure you do it right, spend the time learning HTML and CSS. A great place to start is http://www.w3schools.com If you're looking more in the short term...

    Hello All

It's not a bad design. A couple of notes, though. It feels a bit...claustrophobic. I would maybe widen the content area a bit, and leave some more white space. Try to steer clear of using images in place of text, especially for navigation. You should be able to find a webfont that is at...

Where to start searching for webdevolpment projects

The BEST place to start is to redesign that website, showing off your design skills. When it comes to netting clients, you have to bear in mind that they have no idea how to appreciate what's under the hood, so they go with what they see. Design cannot be an afterthought...ever. Once you've...

Unless you're using a different one, Lightbox works fine in IE. Fancybox works well too.

What legal stuff do start up web design companies need?

I don't know if it will help you, but I was the President of a (very) small non-profit for about a year. We registered with the IRS and had an employer id (EIN), which essentially is your tax ID. Have you tried the Chamber of Commerce? They may at least be able to point you in the right direction.

    Help With Delinquent Client...

I have a simple answer for you: *{display:none;} :) On another note, if you do have to go to court, they signed a contract. Being non-profit doesn't exempt them from contractual obligations. And, btw, in some states, like AK, a verbal contract is every bit as binding as a written one.

What is the best way to learn web design?

It depends on how you learn, but a good place to start is http://www.w3schools.com From there, I personally started reading sixrevisions.com, Alistapart.com, webdesignerwall.com and several others.

Question for someone familiar with site/theme design!

If you don't want to give the author their due, you should either find a different theme or write your own. I will admit that their method is a bit ridiculous, but that's how they chose to brand their work.

    TUTORIAL: CSS-Only Dropdown Menu

Basically, I took a shot it the dark and copied the bit of code that makes the menu appear on hover, and changed :hover to :active. Turns out it works. On my website, when you tap "portfolio", at least on my iPhone, it opens the dropdown. Once I did that, I added it here so it would work for...

    TUTORIAL: CSS-Only Dropdown Menu

I wanted a quick dropdown for my website navigation that wasn't scripted, and zero flash. After reading about it, I drilled the code down to only the basics so I could build from that. So, without further ado, the code below is the CSS-only dropdown menu styled just enough to make the...

    MasterCombo

And is that not why you came here? Try not to be offended. We're an honest bunch here. You'll find few designs, no matter how good, that have been posted here that don't contain some sort of criticism. Mouseover effects are great. I use them in some form or fashion in most of my designs...

Is that a splash page and a completely random clock? Seriously, though. The flash must go. You haven't done anything here that you can't do with some elementary CSS2.

    CSS3 Background Transitions

Recently, I posted on here asking whether CSS3 transitions supported background-image. The answer, of course, was no. So, I devised a workaround I wanted to share here using a property it does support: opacity. The effect works in Chrome, Safari, Opera and Firefox 4+. You can see a demo on...

    New Client Web Site

Easy way to link your header when it's a background image: Create a 1px gif that is a transparent. Place it within the header div, use CSS to stretch the image to the size of the header div. Then link the image to the home page.
