That's <= to you, sir. ;) Wasn't condoning the practice. Just remembering the days when I was first starting out *shudder*.

Not sure what my next learning step should be

No, you cannot. I'd say more designers use simple text editors than those who use DW (including me), and to be honest, I've never used Fireworks, and I think you'll find I'm not in the minority. The truth is, you need to flip your idea of learning web design around. DW and FW are commercial...

IIRC, that was an old page centering trick for IE<=7.

How do I make a website like this?

There might be, but in the end you'll be shoehorning what you want into something just like you would be with Joomla. If you're a designer and this is for a client, I suggest outsourcing a custom job. If you're the owner, trying to save money, and can't be convinced to hire someone, Joomla's...

    Website Tonight?

I'm pretty sure WebSite Tonight is just GoDaddy's drag/drop website builder that comes with a bunch of templates to start from. I don't believe it's so much of a CMS.

How do I make a website like this?

If you want something that works exactly like you are wanting, it'd be better to go with something custom. The site you linked to is a Rails-based app that appears to be custom. That said, Joomla does have the ability to have a page for members of the backend system. Maybe give that a look.

    Startup question

This is me exactly. I haven't coded a site in XHTML in at least 6 months. It only takes 1 conditional comment to load a small script from Google's servers to make it work in IE5+.

    layout help

He just used percentages in the example to make everything fluid. You can replace them with pixels if you want. My suggestion is to use percentages, but then also set min and max widths.

    layout help

Conor pretty much hit it. You'll want to wrap the paragraph in a div to make it do what you're wanting. Also, try using a CSS reset to get rid of the browser specific margins on the elements.

    Anyone good with Fancybox?

They explain it on the website. You can actually have headers and p tags in there, but you have to drop some extra lines in your settings script.

I honestly wouldn't charge anyone anything if all I did was edit a template.
