    Updated Photo Site!

It looks the same to me as it did before. It's a good design, but I said that then, too.

    Roe Designs Redesign

Thanks for the input. I'll definitely change the text on the button. I was trying to go for POW, and I went too far. DHD - You must've switched from IE8 to IE7 just as I was correcting that. I noticed it and corrected it just after I posted this thread. As far as the menu placement, I did that...

    Roe Designs Redesign

http://www.roedesigns.com Well, at long last the site is finally launched. Please have a look and let me know what you think. I know I need content for the third section in the footer. I'm having a hard time coming up with something. I'm also working on the favicon. Some notes about the...

What am I missing by not upgrading?

Anna, I have to let you know: I think, I'm not sure, but I think that Phreadee may be trying to lead you astray. I honestly can't pinpoint what tipped me off, but beware.

    basic question about html body

Funny you should ask. Just today, Chris Coyier at CSS-Tricks posted this: http://css-tricks.com/3458-perfect-full-page-background-image/

What am I missing by not upgrading?

Not saying you should dump it if you have it. Just pointing out that if you're looking to upgrade, there are a lot of free options out there that are, IMHO, better. By all means, if you have it and you're comfortable with it, use it.

What am I missing by not upgrading?

Not much need to upgrade for web design. The only thing I can think of is that Dreamweaver now handles HTML5, but you may be able to find a plugin for your older version that does so. Not that Dreamweaver is actually necessary. There are plenty of free alternatives out there that are either...

    Go to college OR self-teach?

Most of what I've seen has been old school HTML with font tags, inline styles and tables. I've seen some who were using XHTML with CSS. Maybe you can just check the curriculum ahead of time. Or at least go in there knowing their techniques may be outdated and you just need to pass the class...

    Go to college OR self-teach?

The problem with going to school is that the schools are so far behind on web design. So many times, on this forum and others, people have posted class work they needed help with, and the code they were taught by the school looked like something from 1999. That, or they had no idea how to code...

Web pages look funny in html editor

The easiest answer is to stop using the preview in the editors. They suck.

fog effect on a web page

It does, the opacity property handles that. The MS filters are still required for IE.

    Upcoming Roe Designs Redesign

*facepalm* I'm a little embarrassed I didn't think of that myself. Worked like a charm. I could, but I'm not sure I need to cater to non-mobile sizes that small. 450px for screen is quite small. Great article. Love ALA.

    Upcoming Roe Designs Redesign

Yeah, don't know what to do about that, but you have to resize super small.

    Upcoming Roe Designs Redesign

Thanks for the input. Did you actually try the layout on your iPhone? There's a separate media query, max-device-width, which is specifically for mobiles, and works on my iPhone like a charm. I'll take your other suggestions into consideration

    Upcoming Roe Designs Redesign

Have a look and see what you think. While you're at it, go ahead and resize your browser window. I added some media queries (which do not yet work in IE below 9). None of the links work yet, and the content is laid out like the blog page will be. The content area for the main page will look...

Software for web designers and typical workflow for website creation?

Typically, designers will do all of the work themselves, from scratch. As for what to use, that will depend entirely on what the needs of the company are. If you need something that you can update, you should go with a CMS. Since you're comfortable with Wordpress, if you can make it work for...

    "Fluid" Designs

I would use media queries, and scale the images using CSS, as Phreadee suggested. Nick La from web designer wall has a great article on media queries.
