...How do I get it to pick up my keywords? IS it without me knowing? Am I just on a page so far back that nobody would see?

    Hmm...

Well either way I can only find my site by typing requiem.the-rise.co.uk

    Boohoo.

    Help?

I didn't put a meta tag on my site yet, they don't seem to work. Oh my.

Also, how does Google organise who goes on the first page?

You need a link building campaign to get higher rankings. Try submitting your links to web directories, asking for link exchange, buying links with decent websites.

Hmm...I seem to have worked it out!

I'm burningviolet.com and typing burning violet into Google will turn me up first! No quotes. I am happy now. :D

    =^.^=

Thanks! The only people that will search for it are actually gonna be people that know about it.

I want to appeal to people that search for things that I have on my site e.g. graphics, CSS, Photoshop brushes etc...

That is the harder part, and the best part which actually rakes in the $$$'s. Good luck!

Google is an irelavance for commercial sites. It can take as much as six months to find your site appropriately listed and for some sites it may never happen. If it is a commercial site then you have to advertise just like any other business. If you get listed well on any of the search engines then great, but don't expect it and certainly don't build a business strategy artound it.

google is not really an irrelevance, it produces the most and some of the best quality traffic in terms of conversions to actual sales. Although msn traffic, which is far less in volume, tends to convert better.

    Hi, ian

I agree that msn traffic can convert much better but it depends on niche you are working in. I tested some affiliated programs and some of them convert well but others not.

I am talking about the natural msn search engine placements. But yes, I guess results can vary depending on the type of site. I think msn searchers are not as web savvy, and as a result convert better for certain areas.

MSN eats your Meta tags easilyand use them in its SERPs. To rank in Yahoo and Google - you need to work more with off-site optimization: link popularity building, in particular.
