The next trend in web design is less flash, more mobile. Flash websites are exactly that, "flashy." They are bad for search engine indexing, and though it is true that Google and other search engines are getting markedly better at indexing flash sites, they will most likely never be able to fully index content served by flash.
Websites of the future are intuitive, well organized, and quickly navigable...with less stock photos, more interesting color palettes, and larger easy-to-read text. Sites are being built with content-concentric layouts, and with the end-user in mind.
Going back to a more simple, streamlined approach is better for everyone: designers, developers, users, and search engines alike.
