need advice

Hi all,
Just after a bit of advice, i was told that html/htm is not good for a mobile version of my website, so what i am after is names of software that is good for making a mobile site.

As in a site you can view on mobile phones and PDAs.
I can only clarify this- I haven't got the faintest idea of what type of page to use...
Something about XML, I think... I'm probably wrong.
