Javascript nav menu help

hi guys. i want to build a nav menu similar to the one found here: http://www.chrisshipman.com/#/photographer, but i have no clue where to start. is there a template i can follow? it's just a two column nav where the second column is the subnav and has a fading effect. thanks so much in advance.

Like you said, it's a two columns of lists, and it has a fade effect. The fade effects made by jQuery.

You can right click on the page to "view source", and see the JavaScript file (the file here), it is jQuery powered.

thanks. i'd like to use an instance of jmpopups to accomplish this but how do i tell it to close the first popup layer when i display a new one with another menu item?
