How do i keep spam from coming in to my email inbox address?

When i check my in-box i get spam in it.How do i stop that from happening.I don,t remember giving my email address to spammers.I do get spam in my junk mail area and its trashed everyday because i have set it up that way.But i have not figured out how to control it in my regular in-box.How do i do that?

I have used Google apps for domains and let Google do my spam filtering. I have other measures for controlling spam but they are pretty technical and most of the grunt work is done by Google anyway. Thanks
