Help with a background image

I am trying to make the background image you see on this page look better and perhaps weigh less KB

It is a large shot of glossy concrete. My biggest best image is 1853 w x 1171 h

And I don't like the tile action halfway down the page. Any hints?

Thanks in advance

it's a good job you told me it what it was - i wouldn't have guessed otherwise ;)

don't tile it - use #E2E2E2 as a background colour and then that will show below the background image

First, I would take it into Fireworks and optimize the image so it's as small as possible in relation to bandwidth, without losing too much of the images integrity. After that, I would crop it so that it vertically extends down around 600 - 800 px from the top, and then create a gradient overlay so that it fades into a web color toward the bottom of the background image. Then change the pages background color to match the bottom of your image.

It's a cool effect and will keep your load time down.
