Last year I designed a website for an allotment association in South London.

I have since redesigned (in photoshop only!) the website and am now asking for your views.
We decided to redesign it to make it more community centric, thus the 'blog' is the in the middle.

    The original website is:
and the new one is here:

    What do you think?

frankly, the "size" causes viewer's eye buzzing. try reduce size of less-prominent blocks.
i.e. you can reduce size of the footer and both "allotment"

    i hope that help;)

Hello, I am not sure I agree with the size comment above (although bare in mind I am a developer/programmer rather than a designer)

I have read that larger font's while not as attractive convert and keep customers on your site longer.

People these days are overwhelmed with information. The less of it you give them the better. IMO...I could be way wrong though....

Agree make the footer smaller though. That stuff should be out of the way reference type stuff...

Colors look much better now, you organized the content well too.

I do like the new layout quite a bit - the color choices are good, too. The white against brown promotes an earthy feel, but clean at the same time. A few minor nitpicks, but otherwise it's very well designed:

    * "Where Are We" almost reads like a question - "Where We Are" sounds more informative, perhaps..

    * The font and vertical placement of the photo credits are not in sync with the rest of the design (horizontal, sans-serif font).. I would perhaps suggest a horizontal, semi-transparent box floating over the bottom-right corner of the image.. but again, very minor.

Just curious, how difficult was it to include the blog/calendar features into your site? Did you opt for a CMS?

I would reduce the size of your navigation fonts just by a little and also to the same with your title's. They just seem over powering. Hope this helps.

I think you need to get rid of some of the content boxes.

You have picked a few different ways of laying out content and it's really hard for your eye to scan the page.

I would suggest you space elements out more and simplify your content placement.

The main picture hurts my eyes. It's a cool design though.

    Respectfully intended:

For me, it seems too busy, I lean heavily towards simple focused sites that lead the eye to the source of the next move. I rarely put that much text on the home page, I save those articles for inner pages.
