Problems getting listed in Google

I am a novice in SEO but have applied what I believe to be a sensible approach in insuring that my key pages have similar meta tags, keywords and descriptions to those that are ranked in the top 5. I have had success with YAHOO and MSN but nothing at all with Google.

Am I missing a key trick as i have been submitting and updating for over 3 months now.

Are you taking advantage of xml Feeds? My usual top 2 recommendations to my clients are:

  • Create and submit a Google Sitemap -- In addition to being an excellent way to keep Google up to date on your sites activity, this will also provide access to Googles' stats, diagnostics and tools to help you increase visibility. Google also accepts standard RSS feed submissions through your domains Google Sitemap account.
  • Create and submit RSS and ROR feeds. These standard xml feeds should include a Sitemap feed as well as targeted topic feeds. One example might be a targeted feed containing links to your "Products" data sheets.

Google takes time for listing new sites. But for fast listing, add sitemap in your site, submit your site in directories, try to get links from already listed high quality sites & update your content regularly. All these points will help you in fast listing.

Try link exchange with other sites. Maybe worth doing advertising on a high traffic website. This will get you listed quickly as googlebot will be indexing theses regularly and if you are listed with a good link it will find your website quickly as well.

Many thanks indeed. I have hopefully now added/submitted both an ROR and Google sitemap though going through the webtools section on google I now have a problem with being seen by the robots. I think I may have inadvertently removed the robots code from my root menu. I have robots instructions in my home page but I dont know what to put into the root menu.

Again thanks for all the help.
