Modern Media Studios - Website Review

Our site is just barely a month old - we welcome feedback on it.

Site: http://woodlandsadagency.com

Build: Custom Joomla (NON-Template) Design with custom programming and custom built modules along with standard downloadable Joomla mods.

So far our SEO rankings are quite good considering the age of the website but getting into Houston's over-saturated marketing is going to be a challenge.

Ok, my review is not a good one.
I do not like it, in that I think it has too many tricks or bells and whistles in an attempt to showcase your talent, but it looks like sites looked like back in 1998.
In your portfolio, you listed this site http://www.themediahubnetwork.com/ as one of your sites. That one I like, nice rich graphics, simple, professional, more web 2.0

That's an interesting perspective and what I kind of wanted to hear. Good or bad- doesn't matter to us because we know that you can't make everybody happy. But negative comments are equally important as the positive ones because it helps us to improve!

Thanks again!

After getting reviews from all over - I took it upon myself to give our site a small facelift and I wanted our site to load quicker than it originally did.

Feel free to comment - good or bad. (PS - we KNOW ie6 needs some fixes)

What browser are you using? Looks perfectly fine unless you change your default browser settings to a zoom factor of 3 or more.

Got a screenshot?

Overall the site doesn't look too bad but, I think, for a company that specialises in Web Design it could do with some improvement.

1. I'm not a fan of the dark red text on dark backgrounds (ie; link hovers and sidebar titles).
2. I think the header is too busy. I didn't realise there were links at the top at first because I was overwhelmed with everything else in there. I would suggest either moving the links or moving the reference slideshow.
3. The sidebars items are too 'boxy.' I'm not sure if this is a Joomla! thing but if you can make the transition between items more seamless it would look a lot more professional (ie; The RSS Feed and the Facebook buttons would look nicer if they weren't separated).
4. The 'Latest News' in the right hand side bar probably doesn't need a time stamp. I think if you removed the time it would look cleaner and more professional. Ultimately I don't think your customers need to see what time an article was posted.

Sorry if that sounded like a rant, I think the basic site itself is good - it just needs some cleaning.

I think the red text (header text in your 'boxes') doesnt go well with the grey background. It's hard to read, especially at such a small size. I think the red is fine as a hover effect, but not as a base color against this style of background.

I think your header is way too busy. There is a significant lack of whitespace. This could actually be said for most of the site. Try giving your elements a bit of breathing room. All your content is very tightly packed.

Overall nice design; functional and informs the user/customer of all your services and examples. I like this. My biggest beef is with the header; I think you need a tighter focus instead of trying to cram everything into a small space. If nothing else, just remove the links.

Good advice indeed - space was the issue with our site. We have a 300 lb. gorilla and making all that information "fit" within 960px of horizontal real-estate was kind of a hassle.

I also had (can you believe) a color-blind web designer critique the red in my website. I had no idea RED comes out as "black" when viewed by certain types of color blindness.

Although, not sure what color to replace the red with...Especially since we (our entire team) like the color red.
