Website designer starting

Hello I have my print portfolio done that I need in order to start doing some small projects. Can you please point me in the direction on how to get about to asking small local shops if they need a website, what I should take with me, how to ask, what paperwork should I have,and anything else you think I should know about.

I really want to get more of a proffesional feel since I am a Junior and already half way done with school leaving me less then a year to start applying for colleges as a senior.

I dont know If I even made sense so please ask me anything to clear up my question.

I would start by not emailing them. Visit them instead. Find out if they have an existing site, and what you can offer that they don't have. Bring a pad of grid paper and begin by sketching concepts while you are there talking with them.
