Thoughts on my first (Paid Customer) Website

Hi,

I'm a self taught web designer with no official education in the field so be gentle. Recently my wife convinced me to try and make websites for people as a side job and so I did. I have been a bit of a computer nerd my whole life and I love learning about anything related to computers, the internet, and technology in general.

With that out of the way I want to show you my first site. The customer is very very happy, but if you saw the flashy text, old school, mid to late nineties site I upgraded from, it really wasn't hard to please. Anyway, I would appreciate if you guys can take a look and share any thoughts.

Thanks a lot,

Nick

well done! great first site

logo should be antialiased - so the eges blend in with the background and look smooth

'request a quote' button too dark - make it the same red as the 'welcome' to heading

the header could be more *towards* silver than grey to give more contrast to the logo

drop shadow behind the main content wrapper stops before the footer

on the rentals page you have one/2 images note sized correctly and your magic wand work isn't so, well, magic; in places you can see bits left over try taking the last bits with a soft edge brush for the eraser tool

text could do with a touch more line height

overall it's nice and clean - good job! it has a nice relevant feel to it.

Layout wise, It's a damn good first website. Just a couple nitpicky things that Dave mentioned already. If you do nothing else, anti-alias the logo.

Good job you have the modern design techniques down! The functionality is good too. I might suggest using a brighter red for the phone number, kinda too dark, good job though!

I like it... good job dude...

May I suggest integrating "privacy policy" and "terms of use" to your designs going forward? these 2 are important matters....

Privacy Policy and TOS are great suggestions. This is why I feel I needed to join a forum like this, I really appreciate all this positive feedback, and constructive criticism.
