Rollover: Change image to text

Hello,

I'm hoping that somebody will have a few minutes and be able to point me in the right direction.

Basically I am a writer and photographer, but have been teaching myself how to make a website over the past 12-18 months.

I want the website to be very much a visual experience, but when somebody's mouse hovers over an image, the image will be replaced by text telling what the article is about, and allowing them to click through to read the article.

Now, i've found a Wordpress theme which looks fairly similar to what I had in mind but when I decided to get into design (try my hand is more like it) I decided to buy the Adobe CS4 web premium package (btw, bought it from Canada to use in the UK for less than the cost of Photoshop in UK...fyi, and it works 100% fine), so i'd like to build the site myself rather than buy somebody else's theme.

WOAH! I'll stop waffling. Promise.

The general idea of what I'm trying to do is..

http://wpshower.com/themes/imbalance/

I'm assuming it will be fairly straight forward to implement but as i've not done it before, I would feel a lot more confident if an experienced hand could give some advice or at least put me in the right direction.

Much appreciated,

Martin

Let me see if I understand what you're asking...you want to build your own site from scratch, based off of the Wordpress theme you posted? If you've never used Wordpress before, this will be a challenge. If you feel completely comfortable building this site using HTML and CSS, I would recommend building it in HTML and then reading through the tutorials on http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page.

I'm sure for most developers, it's easier for them to just build the site for you then to explain every little detail (that would be a lot of info).

Hope this helps!

Thanks Mike,

I've built a site I'm happy with (as a beginner), but I'm just wanting images to transform to text (a link to a story) when the mouse is over an image.

From what I can gather I will need to learn JavaScript.

Thanks for the reply though.
