Please critique background

Hi all,

Could you please give me your opinion on the design of this background? The file used for the bg is 60K big.

No need to comment on the design on the content itself as this will change soon anyway (...hopefully).

I just need some feedback on the black and white background. It was used to promote a high profile car racing event in our city. Do you think it looks cool or is it rather distracting from the content? Can you tell what it is??

Yes, I can tell it is a chequered racing flag, it does look good.
