Need help where to start!

Hello im new on this forum but im really interested in designing websites and i have been on w3schools and read a lot from css,html,xhtml and tryed some examples it all did work quite well but it didnt turn out as professional as i wanted! so i bought a book to learn dreamweaver cs 4 i read it and i learnd some stuff still im a self learner so i didnt quite catch all of it its a hard book...
and now i bought flash cs 4 book to learn how to design in flash that i actualy wanted from the start i want to make interactive websites animated and so on that are fun to navigate and seetrough windows open ect. im still reading cs 4 book and im folowing tutorials on lynda about it but than again they show some stuff i dont know and they dont explain it! i know photoshop im quite ok with it! so what i want to is know what should i learn first to start normal design cause this all i read is really a problem to actualy use it it would make a year to make a simple design! Can some 1 give me and tips? in what should i desgin and should i transfer to flash and make it interactive or what?
As for now my idea is design in photoshop slice it and transfer to flash?
also what is photoshop elements? is it any use at all? should i even use dreamwaver? please help me out im lost in a sea of different techniques and software

Hi there. First welcome to the web programmers world.

Now, if you familiar with CSS and you know how to use Photoshop, just make web page design with Photoshop, slice it as you need, and build it with CSS and HTML.

Use DreamWeaver to build you code, don't use the 'Design' window - use 'Code' window, build your own code .

Flash??? Don't even touch it right now... It's like fly an airplane with car theory learning only... In Flash you have to know more language, and It's a different way of developing, you don't need it.

Thank you for your reply yes im quite familiar with css and photoshop however i would like to make my site more ermmm animatic? like rounded stuff dont know how to exactly explain to make it look very professional! im curently reading the flash book and downloaded lynda tutorials its quite ok!
Got any tips how i could make that without flash? like more user active stuff and animations?

Interactive website without flash

You can get very interactive website while you using Javascript. The best way to use it is with jQuery.

Try to use tutorials of jQuery (Menus, Slide-shows, Galleries... and more), and your website will look stunning. Just search in Google for "jquery menu", or whatever...

But sure you can learn Flash... More is better, just try not to learn new things before you finish the old ones... .

Excellent infos here guys. On part part I am really fund of using Joomla to create and design amazing professional websites..Has anyone of you here tried it?

Joomla, Drupal, Wordpress and more are CMS (Content Management System). They are powerful tools and you can make almost whatever you like in it.

But, my opinion only, and none here have to agree, i prefer not to use any website template. From my experience, you will do it better for your needs if you will build it by yourself from the beginning.

Learn the languages, plan your website, start designing it, build it, develop your tools... I think it's better.
