my first template

My friend is a dev, and while I know my share of dev, he knows more. Hence, I am the designer. Also, my formal art classes and a little (just a little) artistic abilities, above his of crouse and not generally speaking, lend themselves to e being the designer.

Anyway, I designed his site on Sat since he wants it up to conincide with a newspapaer article about him, his business, and his family. So I wound have liked to take longer as I am on another site, but got this done in a hurry. THIS IS MY FIRST BASE MOCKUP TEMPLATE for his site.
What do you guys think?

I think the colors are too bright. And I dont particularly like the 515 logo, it doesnt blend well with the rest of the site.

Thanks Ian. that is what he said. I am doing a much more minimalist design. Thanks for the honesty and input. I am evolving, and its people's criticism and praise that helps one move along to higher levels of design.

i'm not a big fan of the gradients (at the top and the background) and the buttons. No offense, but they just look very amatuerist. Thats not a knock on your talant, just a knock on the buttons and gradients. Minimalist sounds like a good idea. I liked the logo on the bottom left, but the one at the top is kinda sore thumb. Also I would ditch the top brown thing with the texture. Seems out of place.

Good luck with 2.0, every design takes time to mature and refine
