letting users download

Hello
Some websites have buttons saying "Download Now" and when you click on them it brings up the box saying "save file as..." etc. I want to know how to do this. I've uploaded the files but simply providing a link to the file just shows the file on the server. Hope this is clear.

It works best if the files are .zip files. or some other format that is not marginally web compliant such as .doc files which sometimes open up in the browsers. In other cases you may not have the full path to the file in your link but took it only as far as the directory in which you placed it. For instance: http://www.yourdomain.com/directoryname won't work but do exactly what you described above.

However if you finish the path like so: http://www.yourdomain.com/directoryname/filename.ext it will bring up the save as dialogue.
