layers or tables?

Hi,

I have a small confusion as to whether I should be using layers or tables to design my web pages. So far I've been using layers throughout my website, with tables actually inside the layers.

I'm using dreamweaver to develop, and find it much easier to organise the layout with layers, as you can actually drag and drop pictures/text layers. The problem I'm having with tables is I cant find a way to organise the page.

Whats the best way of doing it?

I've noticed that with layers the page size stays staionary nomatter what the web browser size is. Also pictures and text sometimes overlap on different browsers

I'm pretty sure I need to be using tables directly onto the page, but am a little unsure how to do this.

I'd be greatful for any input at all.

Thank you

the answer is to use what you feel comfortable with. If you can use layers and provide a nice layout that fits different resolutions, then go for it. If you have to use tables, then there is nothing wrong with that either. I prefer to use tables, but I do occasionally use layers. it is all a matter of preference, and what is best for you.

You'd insert a table in much the same way you would a layer. You can make the table a size to expand/contract with browser size, add as many rows and columns as you need to achieve the layout you want. You don't have to specify an absolute position just left, center, or right alignment.
