Joomla

I've used it quite a bit, got to the stage where I could happily build modules & plugins for it....I tend not to use now though as I started to find it limiting & sometimes frustrating to work with....I use my own built CMS now.

What is your reason for asking?

I find Joomla great for when a client needs to actively update their site. It's also remarkably easy to use if it's explained to you correctly. I had a client who owns a gym. I created the site for his gym with Joomla (didn't even tell him I was using it). Sure enough, two weeks after the site was finished, he just fooled around with the backend and I was surprised at what he was able to do without any instructions at all. What's bad, however, is that he didn't know what he was getting into in some areas, so I would get humorous text messages saying "The site doesn't work now." I found out he tried to turn on search engine-friendly URLs (which you should NEVER do with Joomla).

I need a website for my business that allows customers to access their own account info such as name, address, payment options, and also allow them to change those options. Anyone know where I can start, what this type of programming is called, and/or who is a good for design/hosting. Thanks a million!

Why did you give him access to the back end?....he'd only need front end access, thats the point of using something like Joomla.

Joomla isn't as easy to use as some other editors - I have clients that really struggle with the Joomla editor & posting new items no matter how many times I explain it....where as all my clients that use my own CMS have no issues as it is much more straight forward to use.

At first I found it hard to believe that they couldn't use it properly...but you have to remember that everyone is not technically minded.

Well I actually used the same login info that he used for his hosting service, so he managed to just guess it. I didn't even tell him that he needed to type "/administrator" at the end of the URL. That's what I found very strange.
