hi guys,

I've just finished my web site. It 's useful for converting units to other units. I used ajax for this site so this site heavily depends on javascript, please enable js while browsing.

Site address is: http://www.simpleconvert.com
please check my site and write comments.

I'd be glad if ya also summarize your opinions like this:

> Design: 1/5
> Usability: 1/5
> Browser compability: x/5 (please also write your browser and version)

put 1 through 5 instead of those x'es ;)

thx in adv.

Design: 5/5
- matches your site name: neat and simple, I like it.

Usability: 5/5
- I know some of the conversion can be done straight through Google search box. But I think you may have more than what Google has? I am not sure.

Browser Compatability: 5/5 (Firefox 3.0)
- One thing I noticed though is I am not sure if the fact box is actually implemented in AJAX but it actually ends up refreshing my page (the page flicks)... Is it expected behavior? Is it possible to make it not flick?

Nice work!

Looks great. However for some reason in FF3 for me the letter "t" seems to be missing from words in the fun fact section and the conversion links at the bottom. However when i mouse over the "t" shows up in the word.

EDIT: Hmm just went to another site and had the same issue. So must be me!

The design is just what I expected, simple and nice. Good work there! :)

I do have two questions about the usability side of things though. Why is the conversion set to bits and bytes by default? I was confused for a second. The select box seems to go outside the top of my screen without any kind of scroll, so I can't see the top most option! Obviously I can still select it, but it would probably be better if it were visible.

Second question: why does that box say that it has saved my conversion? I haven't even tried it yet. Besides those minor inconveniences the site looks and works great :)

well i dont know why explorer does that.
wish i could limit option limit the amount of "options" that is shown at a time. everything seems to be fine with firefox, since firefox shows smt like 10 options at a time. but explorer tries to show all the options in the select box. and options goes beyond window screen. this happens especially while viewing in a virtual box os. dont know how to fix that issue :(

for that saved conversion thing, well even if you do not convert anything, system is set to convert at least 1 thing. eventually it converts amount of "1" of the default system unit to the default target system unit. that means an active(completed) conversion. and whenever a conversion occurs, system saves it automatically. it is working as invented ;)

the problem with the "t" letters, hmm thats strange, dunno why that happens. its weird.

@ahk2chan: well fun fact version is also an ajax script. and it must not refesh your page! can you check again? it only refreshes itself. not the whole page. unless you click on a link below the fun fact (that will send ya to another page)

btw, i also added a few things lately. some new systems like "currency" "date" "data storage" and a few sections.

Hm, that's strange. From what I've seen it works fine with Explorer but not with Firefox. Can't you just add a scroll bar to it, like in the 'jump to' forms they have on every forum? Or simply adjust the font size a little.

Oh snap! Yeah, it works fine now. It hops up nicely above the tabs with a nice scroll bar!
The size from IE to Firefox is pretty different, but it works great. So no worries! :)

Well first you may want to add an H1 to the site.

Then since your site is based on AJAX, what are you expecting to be indexed besides the home page? You need to plan for that. There are some tips to let bots better crawling some AJAX calls.

Then I guess you need to submit your sitemap to Google.

And also start doing some inbound link building.
