How to use web ribbons?

Hi! I want to know the best practices to use some ribbons in websites...

I found a photoshop psd file with some ribbons and I really liked them, but I'm not sure how to get the best of it... I mean, i've got some ideas but I wanted to see some opinions or examples from you guys!

There really is no "best" practice at using web ribbons. You just have to be creative with it. I've seen people use them for nav menu items, incorporate their logo on it, use them as the back ground for their nav bar. Use it as a "bookmark" for important pages on their site... You just have to be creative because there is no standard usage.

I remember one of my early designs I posted on here that used ribbons. It was so bad. The reviews were just shy of scathing.

The beauty of design is the creativity in it. That's why those ribbons didn't come with a set of instructions that said, "use the 4th one for nav menus, and the 5th one for the date on your blog post." You use things like this where and how it works. I have a whole folder on my computer chock full of crap like that.

I know sometimes you come across something you're just dying to use. I wrote a jQuery carousel for a design I was working on, and that design got scrapped. Now, I have that code just sitting there. I want to use it for something. Can't really just shoehorn it into something though. I'll eventually pull that code aside, make some changes to it so it works a little smoother, maybe even throw it up on Github, but ultimately, I won't use it just to use it.

I think I get it... thanks guys, I'm starting as a webdesiger and your comments are really helpful. What I learned was that "creativity is no friend when I use something just because I want to. There should be inspiration"... anyway, that ribbons file was useful by understanding some techniques in photoshop
