How to create custom heading formats?

Hello all!

I am new to web design and have what i hope is a simple question. i would like to create custom formats for the headings (h1, h2, h3, etc..) for my site similar to those that are used on this site:

The code for the specific element that I am looking at is:

<h2 align="left"><em>LET’S TALK</em> COLLARED SHIRTS.</h2>

I would like to be able to pick a different font than the paragraph text, have a background color / shape, and have part of the text highlighted in a different color.

Can anyone recommend a tutorial that addresses how to get started accomplishing this? Or perhaps recommend a plugin?

I use wordpress as my CMS and Woothemes Canvas as my theme, if that helps.

If you are looking for a non-standard font then try Google web fonts to start with http://www.google.com/fonts/ or http://nicewebtype.com/notes/2009/10/30/how-to-use-css-font-face/

Just be careful with the latter as it can considerably reduce page loading times if not done right.

And to style an H2 (or any other html tag) you would have a piece of css style like this:

h2 {
font-size: 50px;
color: #222;
etc, etc
}

Remove deprecated html attribute align and let css handle that kind of thing:

<h2 ><em>LET’S TALK</em> COLLARED SHIRTS.</h2>
