Home Theater Website Analysis

Hi Everyone,

I desperately need help with our new website. Any opinions and advice would be much appreciated.

So in 2003, I started my company and launched our current website at www.elitehts.com. We're a manufacturer of high-end custom home theater seating. The company has done very well since then.

The site is 100% Flash and as you all know there are many advantages and disadvantages with Flash namely SEO.

The main feature of the website is that we allow the user to interactively build their chair in the "customize/models & colors" area. After they have built their chair, they can then submit their configuration in order to receive a PDF estimate from us. The more submissions we receive, the higher the sales.

So at the beginning of this year, we started to develop our new site that is primarily HTML based but still has a Flash feel to it. It's temporary location is at www.elitehts.com/new

We've tested it on a limited basis mainly by re-pointing our Google Adwords account to the new site. As soon as we did this, the phones went dead and the "customize" submissions were almost non-existent.

We've tweaked it here and there hoping for the phones and e-mails to start coming in again, but to no avail. We just cant seem to unlock this mystery.

So I'm hoping that you can companre the two websites and give your opinion as to what makes the original so appealing, and why the new one just cant get off the ground.

Again the ultimate goal is to get the user to enter the "customize" section, build their chair, and submit their configuration.

The two sites are www.elitehts.com (original)
and www.elitehts.com/new (new html site)

Many Thanks.

It looks to me like the original website did not contain moving pictures. There are two pictures moving at the same time on the new website home page. This can pull the eye back and forth and quickly move the reader to click away. The entry page is smooth and crisp on the original website.

I almost don't believe your post- But, you went into such detail that I can't help but admit the possibility of a completely random coincidence- being that your lack in calls has anything to do with the site change-

I went through the process on both sites, sure the flash is cool, but I found the html much easier to follow, and the homepage looks much more stylish-

During the process, html site is easier to follow, the chair customization images are more crisp and more 'telling' of the final product.

I highly doubt that the site change had anything to do with the lack in sales. I would bet the culprit is more of a slowly failing economy where high end items such as your chairs are a commodity that even the super wealthy have decided for forgoe.

My suggestion, sell your business and start anew with a more 'in demand' product. (like pizza)

Lastly, I googled 'home theater seating' and you guys are on top- Doesnt get much better then that! & I think you site is dope- (html)

There are lot of design which affects relationships. If you were to create home cinema systems, it should be something that gets your appetite. Something that your family or other members of your family or even friends that they will not get bored on the place where they rest or sit while they watch something.
