Rain 2004
Rain was influenced by the poems, proverbs and idioms which I had read. This Rain is not a typical rain that we expect to see. This is a unique Rain based on imagination and thoughts; the meaning of rain, metaphoric rain, rain in religion and rain in dry country. However, I wouldn't try to push people to accept it as rain, I prefer them to be free to imagine what it is. If they want they can walk trough it or lie on floor and watch the Rain. I think this installation has different views, for instance, if we stand we can see something different from when we lie on floor or even above it. One of my aims was to show a mass movement by putting nails in different positions. Automatically, by looking at the rain it is not possible to realize there are wires holding the nails; it seems they are part of the work.
Fishing wire, nails (glazing brand), cigarette filter, wood and glue have been used in this project.
Goddess 2004
The Goddess series was my critical view to a womans place in my society. They were made in four parts:
In part one, I considered that firstly, in non-Islamic countries people think there is mystery under veils; I tried to show there is nothing, everything is the same. Secondly it was my objection to wearing it.
In part two, I followed the same path, but this time I was angrier and knew what to do with these beliefs. I damaged the base and changed the wrapping material from paper to transparent plastic. I filled halved balls with tomatoes to show my disgust at such way of living.
In part three which contains A and B, I thought it was better to change Goddess to something more simple, because I think a womans soul is pure and peaceful.
In part four, I filled it with water with the sky below; there are a lot of balls that are thirsty. The two red balls are on the opposite side, they try not to let her down.
The base dimensions are 1*1*1 meter and made of wood. There is a cylinder 1 meter high and 90 cm in diameter. Decorations are nuts and carved wood. One washing machine motor. One printed picture. Foam balls.
Sculpture made of Balsa wood, hand made paper, glue, one red plastic ball.
Structure 2005
Structure is the name that I gave to this project. I tried to have an experience with Balsa wood and control it as I wanted (bending and gluing). To make this work I had a look at architectural styles. I tried to occupy the space while letting the air pass through the structure. My other experience was to put it in different places to find the best location for it.
Balsa wood and wood glue have been used to make this work. It is 1*1*1 mm
