error to resolve my url

I have encountered a problem and don't know how to fix this problem.
when I use this url "http://www.my-site.com/" to view my website, it won't redirect.
I could only view website throw the following link:
"http://xx.xx.xxx.xxx/my-site/index.htm"
How could I fix this problem?

Change the name of your index page to index.html or delete the default index.html page and it should show up. Most likely, there is a default page from your hosting provider called index.html that is keeping you from viewing it any other way.

If you've initiated the hosting change within the past 24-72 hours - the DNS changes may not be updated from your location yet. If Stephanies suggestion doesn't help...you may need to wait a day.
