Not exactly sure what you need to know, but if you are starting from scratch with limited coding ability, I would check into something like osCommerce or CubeCart

I would check out the paypal merchant options, then you can design your site as normal, and let paypal worry about security and whatnot

did you look at Website payment pro? The user never leaves your site, can pay with credit cards or paypal, its all secure through paypal in the background, and you decide how it all looks and works. Its for the U.S. only is the drawback (do you live in the states?) free till feb 2006 then 20 bucks a month. its what i use, makes things real simple for me
