Hi, I'm Dave B from Toronto, Ontario. I've been designing for a few years now, but just recently began doing it as more then just a hobby. I was curious, what web designers would take into account when coming up with their pricing? How do they determine their prices? I consider myself to produce work of professional quality and design and didn't want to end up shortchanging myself or overcharging clients. So, I was hoping someone could give me some pointers in coming up with prices or maybe just a general idea of what one might charge for a design like this:

This was something I created a couple years ago but never got any use out of. If I were to use this and create a simple CMS which would allow clients to add, edit, or delete things like images, articles, etc.

How much do you think would be a fair price?

I'd really appreciate all you helping out this up and coming web designer.

I like to charge by the hour, that way the customer is paying for the work I do. The hourly rate can be set based on what your level of expertise is. And that is the tough part. You say you want to take the below design and put together some sort of CMS. If you haven't done it before it could take you days to get it right, whereas I could take that design and using one of the open source CMS packages, put together the site in hours.

In instances like this I try to estimate how much time is my "training" and how much time is actually "work" and charge accordingly.
