Beginner's question

Hey there, folks. Glad I found this forum. I'm a novice and will probably be frequenting this board; hopefully you all are patient and kind to rookies.

I have a basic understanding of HTML and CSS. I'm learning how to use Fireworks and I'm currently trying to build a site for a family member's flooring business. I've designed the homepage, complete with vector shapes, images, body copy, navigation bar, footer, etc. I'm reading through an Adobe tutorial on how to take this design, using web slices, to Dreamweaver.

I just caught on today that I should use Fireworks for each page of the site - I guess I was thinking I would design the layout, then create the individual pages in Dreamweaver and export the elements from Fireworks. I realize it depends on the site - how uniform you want it to be site-wide. Is that a correct assertion?

as long as you do the majority of the styling with css. only use images when absolutely needed.

Thanks

I'm using this tutorial: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/turning_design_into_html_and_css_pt1.html

Fireworks allows you to design a site and export it into Dw using "web slices," and will even convert your design into code, though roughly, as I understand it. I'm going to have to do some code editing.

Reading further into the tutorial, I see how that guy handles designing multiple pages with Fw. For now, I think I'll just follow his lead. Unless someone has some better advice.

Well that tutorial is for cs4. In cs6 the workflow is much more simplified. And the CSS properties panel is your friend. Follow that tutorial if you want but your making your workflow much longer than it need be.

And just to be absolutely clear on the advice front - exporting your slices from Fireworks to Dreamweaver is a bad idea.

Maybe try and get a Wordpress site up and running and see how easy you find it to modify a theme working off your Fireworks visuals. Steeper learning curve but at least the correct learning curve and end result they get a site they can update themselves.
