basic question about html body

Hello everyone I just joined this forum and I have a newbie question about html design.
What is the proper coding for background image so it scales with monitor resolution? When i use the background property under CSS for body tag it doesn`t scale the image so when i look at the image on my 1980x1080 monitor i can see the actually background color which is white but when I look at it on my smaller resolution monitor it looks fine so how can I set the property for body so it scales with monitor resolution.

there is also a nice full size script called "supersize" that you can use.
you can make random changing backgrounds, or a slideshow of sorts with it too, which is handy in some circumstances...
although that post looks pretty solid.
