    Alternative to ReCaptcha

One trend I've seen lately is people just using a simple checkbox that if not checked will not allow the form to be submitted.

Am I wrong for feeling this way?

Caldwell hit the nail on the head. If you consider yourself any kind of professional, stifle your hurt feelings and just do the work. I wouldn't even bother with why she wants another designer. Who knows, maybe you'll make a new friend...

    simple image script question

It isn't generally recommended, but if it works for your situation, there's nothing stopping you from doing it.

    Modifiying text with CSS?

Says the guy with at least 15 instances of this in his website code: <span class="field-content"><a href="/tech-support-articles/patching-umbraco-fix-security-vulnerability-aspnet">Patching Umbraco to fix security vulnerability in ASP.NET</a></span> Generally speaking, you clearly don't...

    Modifiying text with CSS?

It doesn't matter if it works. Just be sure to know the very important difference between inline (span) and block (div) elements, so you know what to do if it breaks. Also, consider using neither if possible. For instance: If you need to do something with an image, just add your styles to the...

    CMS vs HTML

I'm with Phreadee. I've pretty much dumped static sites unless specifically requested by the client. You can just as easily make a 1 page site with WP as you can a huge blog. And, it has the bonus of being easy to update. I've also found WP templates as easy or easier to make than static ones...

    Modifiying text with CSS?

Always, always, always, always, always, always, always use CSS in a seperate stylesheet. If the text appears only once, you might consider using either a class or an ID to target it, like so: <h2 class="title">Some Text</h2> h2.title{font-size:14px;} Now, a lot of people will tell you...

    I know, I know;

Have you seen the countdown? Less than 1% of the US is using it. A quick check of all the sites I track in analytics shows not 1 single user. It's good to test your site, but IE6 is dead...unless you have a lot of visitors from China.

    Navigation item width

Read his response again. It's a canned response so he can get his links in. I highly doubt he even read your post. At any rate, I don't know if there's any way to do it with just CSS.

Margin or padding where there shouldn't be

IIRC, Boilerplate doesn't use a reset in the traditional sense. I think the reset it uses takes browser defaults and makes them match across the board instead of just wiping them out. Also, IIRC, there's a version of Boilerplate that has a different reset built in, and if not, you can just build...

Margin or padding where there shouldn't be

That would likely be a browser default. Try a CSS reset to fix it. A quick thing to try to see if that's the issue is the universal selector: *{margin:0;padding:0;} Don't use that as your reset, because it messes a few things up, namely list items, but it works to troubleshoot.

Design through Wix - Bad Practice???

It wasn't directed at you. I was talking to the guy spamming thread after thread telling people to PM him about his crappy WYSIWYG software. I hope for you that the point still resonates, though. If you're the least bit serious about web design, treat it as an art, not just an idle skill.

Design through Wix - Bad Practice???

Let me rephrase this: "You don't need to actually learn how to make websites when you can just use the same crap software grandma uses to do it!" If you want to learn to make websites, suck it up and learn to code AND design. There is more to web design than just making a page look pretty...

How do I get my div corners rounded?

That's pretty much the standard. I've reached the point where I don't really worry about IE too much. I make sure my designs at least present a readable experience in IE8 and 9, and that's it. Otherwise, you waste too much time reworking everything. My theory regarding a lot of the effects...

How do I get my div corners rounded?

Fireproof, yours won't work in IE 8 and below. 6 and 7 are damn near irrelevant, but unfortunately, 8 still is. Glenn, you can't always just go with the first search result. A few results down was CSS3PIE, which is the answer you're looking for.

Design through Wix - Bad Practice???

Yes, yes it is. If you want to be a web designer, you'll have to put in the time to learn to code. That, or outsource it.
