What (in your opinion) is the optimal range in download size of a web page?

For the 'page' a few kB is usually ample, it is only text after all.

lol. Ok, maybe I should clarify. Given a combination of page, script, stylesheets, and images, what is a good range of page size?

I learned that good practice is to keep all images and files under 100k
chances are you aren't going to load all the files at once
but with speeds the way they are today ... I try not to get to hung up on it
audio, video and pdf files tend to get big ... but besides that there really isnt much you would need that will exceed 100k

Dunno? It all depends on what type of site you are creating.
A "photo gallery" document will be "bigger" than the average "discussion board" document.
There is no "one size fits all" metric, the only proviso is "As 'light' as it can be without sacrificing quality."
