When you create a new blog, how do you go about marketing it?

What are some of your favorite ways to promote a blog? Blogger relations? Link building? Blog competitions? Do you gain attention from PPC ads?

What works for you, and what do you recommend for others?

I don't currently have a blog, but I do know that you can optimize it to rank for specific keyword phrases just like any other site.

Do you gain attention from PPC ads?
PPC will certainly give you exposure if you want to pay the costs.

Wayzata eh? I used to live in long lake.

I like EntreCard, Twitter and StumbleUpon as sources of traffic when starting out. If you write articles that get picked up by social bookmarking sites that helps too.
Other then that forums, blog comments and other communities can really help spread the word while you are waiting for search engines to start bringing you traffic.

Make it a "do follow" blog and advertise it as such on a few "do follow" directories. True it will bring a good deal of spam but it will also bring a lot of other worthwhile traffic.

I use LinkReferral. It takes some time to do the reviews but you can also get some good reviews that you can add to your site as well. I also use Entrecard, Twitter, and MyBlogLog.

Why don't you submit your blog to different blog directories. Google for them and you'll find a lot of such directories. And the most important is to update your content as often as just possible. So you'll rank well for the keyword you use in your posts

not sure about the PPC actually, that's now quite common for blog promotion today - first of all because blogs do not directly return your PPC costs.
besides, blogs are all about communities. i mean they're meant for some specific audience segments. in this case you should go to the social bookmarking projects and join the communities that you think your blog is closer to (or build ones). social media marketing is the best way for the start-up blogs, just make sure the blog itself will be attractive and interesting.

Social bookmarking and networking - that's what I do to market and promote my blog. Twitter and Mybloglog are perfect sites for driving traffic and building visitors.

Twitter is Ok, adn SU is great but I don't think that dofollow plugin is a great promotion because spamming comments will not atract normal visitors((

Once you create the blog suscribe it to the most blog engines as possible, also integrate it with twitter, it is wonderful the amount of traffic that you start to get with twitter, I highly recommend wordpress because it has many plugins that help you with SEO, just try it and you will see what I am talking about.

I would agree with the guy talking about posting links on other topic related blogs. When you comment on the blog post where it asks for your name type in the terkm you would like search engine results from. Then add your URL where it asks for your URL. This will create great backlinks for you, as long as the blog has a decent page rank. Just build link popularity in the terms you would like to get results in. Choose a term wisely that is half the battle. Look at the competition as well and see how many inbound links they have as well.
